Re: Porto
Don't mention Nipah, unless you want to get Marriana Northbank involved.

Port fascinates and terrifies me in equal measure; its delicious but very easy to drink like wine (big mistake). I try to only drink it when on holiday or in a restaurant, because the temptation to have a few glasses is irresistable, and it hurts like mad the next day.

"Chilled white port is one of the most under-rated after dinner drinkies, with a decent cheese and a few olives."

Something I agree with rios on.

I feel slightly ill, and I don't think it's Nipah, although I have just eaten chorizo, PORK chorizo

Re: Porto
Douro wines are probably my favourite, never had a bad one.

Chilled white port is one of the most under-rated after dinner drinkies, with a decent cheese and a few olives.

Lisbon is one of those towns that, unlike London, seems to have turned its back on its river. Porto is not.

Re: Porto
What amazes me about Lisbon is how much of it was under the river before the Great Earthquake... and how quickly they built on the land without, apparently, worrying the river would take it back

Re: Porto
You’d like Porto if you’re still OK with York.

It’s dark and sort of brooding.

Re: Porto
Can't help much, but I'm definitely going to Portugal in January or February.

Not fed up with Lisbon by any means, but I'm tempted to go elsewhere this time.

If you could report back, it could help ME...

I was taken there a couple of times whilst working at Portugal Telecom.

Seem to remember canals and top quality chocolate in the shape of fish.

Re: Porto
Very hilly.
Most of thePort wineries are down on the river. All good for a tasting sesh.
Down at Matosinhos there is a nice beach and some superb fish and seafood restaurants. Some cheap but good and some up market. Love it down there. Very hipster.
Otherwise, take time to walk around and take in the place.
